Bringing a Little Light to the Darkness

As it so happens, otters (contrary to popular belief) do enjoy flying. Ask any sky-ship captain and he'll tell you, "Aye, otters...cunning little beasties! I'd hate to match wing and steel against one."

To catch the magnificent stature of these sky-fairing creatures, I used scratchboard and ink. While scratchboard is one of my favorite media, it has some limitations in the saturation of color you can obtain...for color, clayboard may suit your fancy. Scratchboard tools also have some limitations, typically to the quality of the blade or edge they typically provide. I recommend using an X-acto knife with a comfy rubber grip and a #11 blade for fine work.

As for inspiration...someplace between a love of steampunk and a love of otters, this! Currently, this piece has a home. I'm hoping more like it will be along shortly.
